You will note that there is significant synergy
between the UK RIVPACS methodology and
the STAR-AQEM methodology. In recent years,
collaboration and exchange have continued,
encouraging the development of methods for

ecological assessment.

The Water Framework Directive implementation
and the need to adapt existing methods and
develop new methods was the catalyst needed
to advance cooperation.

Resources were made available via the EU and
Member States to advance the science and
operational implementation of these ecological
and biological methods.

We hope this partnership will continue.

The WFD implementation and projects such
as STAR-AQEM are good examples of sharing

expertise and demonstrate the potential for
development and adaptation of methods to suit
a wide range of riverine habitats.
