WFD
THE WATER FRAMEWORK DIRECTIVE
AND ITS DAUGHTER DIRECTIVES
The Water Framework Directive was adopted by the EU in 2000
(8)
Some elements of the WFD were not
ready for incorporation, or were seen as
too contentious in 2000 to be included
in the full WFD.
These were set aside for further
development and negotiation.
They were designated as WFD Daughter
Directives. The Groundwater Directive
(2006/118/EC) and Priority Substances
Directive (2008/105/EC) were the two
key elements that were reserved for
later agreement.
